‘Do This In Memory’
A Parish- based Preparation Programme for First Eucharist
‘Do This In Memory’ is the Parish Programme of Preparation in use in Portlaoise Parish to prepare the children to receive the Sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion. The programme is based on four cornerstones which lay the foundation for sound community-based sacramental preparation.
- 1. The sacramental preparation of children is the responsibility of the home, school and parish working together in partnership.
- 2. The work of sacramental preparation begins long before the First Eucharist celebration
- 3. The celebration of First Eucharist is a sacred and important moment on a long journey of faith development.
- 4. The sacramental preparation of our children must always be seen as one element of the broader task of whole-community catechesis.
Do This in Memory compliments the school-based work and takes place outside the classroom in the context of the parish Sunday Eucharist.

Format for ‘Do This In Memory’ Masses:
Choose whichever Mass time and venue suits.
Saturday Mass at 7.30pm in St Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise
Sunday Mass at 11.15am in St Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise
Sunday Mass at 9.30am in The Church of the Assumption, The Heath.
Sunday Mass at 10am in the Holy Cross Church, Ratheniska.
